Classical Programme Manager (August 2019 – November 2020)

Duties included:

  • Responsibility as the lead and figurehead for the classical music programme; internal champion and external public face
  • Representing the organisation internationally:
    • European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) Artistic Platform in Hamburg, leading on and presenting Birmingham’s 2021/22 nomination for the ECHO Rising Stars initiative
    • Tokyo, Japan, overseeing the production of Meet Nobuyuki Tsujii: An audio-described film; overseeing the production and interviewing Nobuyuki Tsujii and Itsuko Tsujii
  • Curating, negotiating and managing Town Hall Symphony Hall’s own promoted classical music season:
    • Development and implementation of a themed approach to the Classical Season, strategically targeting different audience groups
  • Supporting and developing Town Hall Symphony Hall’s classical music season with additional activity including artist conversations, learning and participation activities, and other supporting performances
  • Co-ordinating Town Hall Symphony Hall’s classical music season with that of the resident orchestra CBSO, Associate Artists, and other artistic partners
  • Responding to changes in perceptions of what classical music is, exploring genre crossovers and new formats for presenting both traditional and contemporary repertoire

Programme Co-ordinator (July 2015 – July 2019)

Duties and achievements included:

  • Overseeing the delivery of the annual classical music season of 60 concerts featuring UK/international visiting artists
  • Programming the ECHO Rising Stars strand of emerging classical artists and producing the Organ Concert Series
  • Project managing the Birmingham International Piano Competition
  • Line managing the Cultural Intern and Organ Scholar
  • Leading on programming, producing and delivering Symphony Hall’s Inside Out festival – a ‘free festival’, with a holistic overview of programming, marketing, design, operations, and finance, within a £40,000 budget
  • Leading and managing the Symphony Hall Inside Out Festival Working Group
  • Project budget management of £115,000 within the wider artistic programming budget
  • Representing the organisation externally:
    • ABO Conference 2016: Place Makers – Panel Speaker (January 2016)
    • BBC Diversity and Inclusion in Composition Conference – Steering Group Member & Panel Speaker (March 2016 – May 2019)
